Celebration honors Native American Heritage Day

|

An early celebration of Native American Heritage Day will take place Thursday and Friday at Crafton Hills College in Yucaipa.

The annual "California's First Cultures: A Celebration at Crafton Hills (Wa'at)" will begin at 9 a.m. each day in the performing arts center of the college, 11711 Sand Canyon Road. The event is by sign-up only.

The celebration will feature presentations on Native American culture from representatives from several tribes, including the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians. About 400 elementary school students from Redlands and Yucaipa, along with parents and teachers, are scheduled to attend.

The students will take part in hands-on lessons on basketry, pottery, music and story-telling. Nov. 27 is Native American Heritage Day.
