When kids get squirrelly, Cuca's offers great food on the go

Weekly Family Dining Profile: We're looking for places that are kid friendly, have good prices and healthy menus.

Here is the rundown on our Cuca's Mexican Food experience:

Say you want the dining out experience but you don't actually want to dine out. The kids are hopped up because -- like many animals -- they go a little crazy with the weather changes. But you're craving something tasty that doesn't involve cooking or dish washing.

That pretty much fit my frame of mind last Monday, so we made a stop at Cuca's Mexican Food. There are two locations in Redlands, one in Rialto and another in Highland. I haven't visited all of them, but of those I have, they all have great authentic Mexican food. And most importantly, awesome chips and salsa.

As it turns out, they also have a great kids menu. We've been visiting various Cuca's locations for years and somehow hadn't utilized the kids' menu options that include burritos, tacos, quesadillas or even a hamburger, coupled with fries and a drink.

The original Cuca's location is a stand located on East State Street in Redlands. The locals swear by the stand as an old favorite. The other Redlands location and the Rialto location are more formal sit-down restaurants, and the Highland location includes a drive-through and a quick service menu.

We grabbed our grub to go from the Redlands stand since we were suffering from the whole crazy kids/weather phenomenon and home seemed like a good place to be.

I chose the green burrito (better be hungry for the burritos there) and an order of chips and salsa. The kids both chose the bean burrito, french fries and small drink kids meals. (They need to be hungry to polish these plates off, too).

The chips were freshly made, served with the always-amazing salsa. The french fries were thickly sliced deep-fried potato wedges. There weren't even crumbs left on the plates when they finished mowing through them.
