Kids take the stage

The Riverside Children's Theatre has been around over five decades, which means it has had several generations of performers.

The current generation - with a little help from the last - is performing the William R. Dixon production of "The Jungle Book" at the University of California Riverside Theater Thursday, October 30 at 7 p.m., Halloween night at "dark" and Saturday, November 1 at 1 and 7 p.m.

Cost is $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Call 951-351-9871 for information or tickets.

Tabaqui is played by Claire Glidden in the Riverside Children's Theatre production of "The Jungle Book."

The Riverside Children's Theatre hosts two productions each year and offers weekly Saturday classes for children grades K-8. The classes are on dance, music and theater arts.

"Parents invest a tremendous amount of time," said Robert Herrick, president of the RCT Board. The organization is run entirely by parents and volunteers.

One thing unique to the group is that all kids kids who audition get a part in the production, Herrick said. The audition is good for practice and to find the best fits for the parts.

Make tracks to the museum

First 5 San Bernardino's All Aboard Reading Railroad Literacy Fair will be at the San Bernardino County Museum Sunday, November 2 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

It's a free event, open to the public and there will be goodies for preschool and kindergarten visitors - a brand new book bag with books already inside.

"Children will get a passport up front and then visit stations to hear a story and get their passports stamped," said Bonnie Woodrome, communications and resource specialist at First 5.

In the courtyard there will be activities and games related to literacy for children of all ages, as well as resources for parents about school preparedness, health and well being.
