Steven Spielberg still isn't making his Lincoln movie, but Robert Redford is.THR says he's directing The Conspirator, a historical drama about the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln by that Civil War era Lee Harvey Oswald, John Wilkes Booth.
Redford's film will focus primarily on Mary Surratt, an alleged conspirator of Booth's. Surrat was a Washington boardinghouse owner and Confederate sympathizer who allegedly supplied Booth and his crony David Herold with weapons after they shot Lincoln and fled to her tavern.
The Conspirator seems to be approaching the Lincoln thing from right angles where Spielberg's movie sounded more like a straight up biopic. The film's producers are still casting but word is that James McAvoy is one of their top targets to play one of the movie's male leads.

Courtesy All Headline NewsSo Yi started asking strangers in Los Angeles about love ("a result of a quarter-life crisis and extreme overreaction") and realized she was getting incredible stories. "I met this one couple who had been married for years and discovered an old picture in an attic," she says. "They had been at the same party when they were young and never met! I got all kinds of amazing anecdotes, and I thought, so many movies about love are fictional, what if we went on the road and made one that is real? I originally intended to make a simple documentary, just full of interviews."

The satellite network said Wednesday it will launch the Guillermo Arriaga-directed drama August 21 as a DirecTV Cinema offering in HD and standard definition.
The film, unveiled almost a year ago at the Venice International Film Festival, won't hit theaters until September 18 through Magnolia Pictures, 2929's distribution arm. It then will play simultaneously on DirecTV at reduced prices.
The film depicts two parallel stories running side by side: Theron plays a bed-hopping woman on the run from something in her past; Basinger plays an ill-fated married mother of four.
In reviewing the film at Venice, The Hollywood Reporter described it as "an ambitious, visually handsome production which fails to ignite."

They are: 5. "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen," 4. "Confessions of a Shopaholic," 3. "Dance Flick," 2. "New in Town" and 1. "I Love you, Beth Cooper."
What do you think? Do you agree with their list or do you have one of your own? What movies would you steer folks away from?
I thought "New in Town" wasn't bad, a schlocky, fish-out-of-water romantic comedy, but that's what Renee Zellweger does best. Harry Connick Jr. makes the film watchable.
