Stagecoach: Black Prairie cools it down

Black Prairie

Modern acoustic band Black Prairie took to the Mustang Stage tent Sunday and brought a new level of calm to Stagecoach.

The tent was already good to go with the super combination of shade and a nice, cool wind blowing in.

When the band started playing an instrumental song everything was right in the world.

In fact, it really felt like I was in an old western film. I seriously expected some tumbleweeds to blow by and Clint Eastwood to snarl past me.

Another cool thing about the five piece band; an acordian player. You hardly see those in the wild anymore and no Weird Al doesn't count. And she is a talented acordian player.

One more interesting tidbit: no drums at all.

Chris Funk and Nate Query of The Decemberists formed Black Prairie in 2007 and they are from Oregon.

Extra points to Funk for wearing a fedora in this sea of cowboy hats.
