Blondie added to the Fox's lineup

Last week the Fox Performing Arts Center announced its slate for fall/winter and while it had a number of items, only a few were pop music (we got Lalah Hathaway on Sept. 11, UB40 on Oct. 1 and Graciela Beltran Nov. 19-20).

However, as of this morning, the venue has added Blondie for Nov. 18 at 8 p.m.

It says "tickets on sale soon," on the Fox's website, but noted the price points at $35-$75 and $85 for VIP.

It's punk, it's pop, it's probably the closest the Fox will get to being CBGB's.

Here's one of the catchiest guitar riffs ever:

It's a 21 and older show, tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door.

Bluesy rockers The Stone Foxes are also playing The Edge on Aug. 21 for a free show. The band has been building a ton of buzz and I wouldn't be surprised if we saw them on the Coachella 2011 lineup.

More on the cancellation of the Temecula Music Fest

Local promoter Bill Gould, head of Full Value Entertainment and organizer of the Temecula Music Fest, announced today that the 2010 edition of the festival has been canceled.

In a video press release, Gould thanked a number of bands, volunteers and city staff for all of their help and support in putting the festival on for its previous incarnations before citing personal and professional reasons for stopping the festival.

He said he is working on a Temecula Octoberfest concept of four weeks of shows at local venues that will raise money to fight cancer.

"The Temecula Music Fest will live on in everybody's memory," he said.

The festival started in 2005 as the Identity Band Clash and morphed into the Temecula Music Festival, drawing top talent from the Inland region and also became a place for younger bands to break out in front of a large audience. This year's festival was scheduled for Aug. 13-15. Gould said in his statement that the show on Aug. 13 will continue with details to be released later.

Gould said Live at the Merc, the Friday night series he programs at the Mercantile Building at the Old Town Temecula Community Theater, will continue.

Temecula Music Fest canceled for 2010

Bill Gould of Full Value Entertainment, who has put on the Temecula Music Fest for the past five years, has canceled this year's event, which was scheduled to take place in Temecula on Aug. 13-15.

"The Temecula Music Fest has ran its course. We had five great years," Gould said in a video press release he put up on Ustream.

He said personal and professional reasons led him to cancel this year's fest, but the weekly Live at the Merc series will continue on Friday nights at the Mercantile Building in Old Town Temecula.

The music festival has been a launching pad for Inland bands, especially those in Southwestern Riverside County.

He said there will be a show on Aug. 13 and release more details later.

Idol: Tour cancels some dates, reschedules others

The traditionally booming summer concert season seems to have fallen on some hard times, especially if you're on the Lilith Fair, but now even the formerly untouchable "American Idol Live" tour has axed some dates and rescheduled others, according to MJ's superblog about "American Idol."

All of the SoCal dates for mid-August are unchanged (fans of Moreno Valley's Andrew Garcia can visit OC, LA or San Diego to see him perform live), but apparently Canada isn't a fan of the "Idols." The Toronto concert is one of seven that have been canceled.

So what gives? Are fans afraid winner Lee Dewyze will bring that bagpiper on tour? Is it a protest of Simon Cowell leaving the show (even though we never saw him on tour)? Is this the final nail in the coffin for the "Idol" gravy train?

Discuss.

Art Laboe's show returns to Devore in September

Hot 92.3 & 99.1 KGGI present are presenting the 8th annual Art Laboe show at San Manuel Amphitheater in Devore on Sept. 11.

Black Crowes to release acoustic album, play Spotlight 29 and then go on hiatus

blackcrowes.JPG

The Black Crowes are releasing their first-ever double album of all acoustic material, "Croweology," on Aug. 3. Hurrah!

Then they're doing a tour, which will bring them to Spotlight 29 in Coachella on Dec. 8. Awesome!

Then, the band is going on an "indefinite hiatus." Boo.

"Croweology" features new arrangements of their best-loved songs and the band's catalogue picks. Then the band's tour starts Aug. 13 and wraps Dec. 19 with a six-night stand in San Francisco at The Fillmore. Then Chris Robinson (vocals/guitar), Rich Robinson (guitar), Steve Gorman (drums), Sven Pipien (bass), Luther Dickinson (guitar) and Adam McDougall (keyboards) are going on hiatus to spend time with their families.

The band is thanking its fans for two decades of support by making the double-album the price of one.

In a lot of markets the band is doing two sets per night-- one that's acoustic and one that's electric. It looks like the Spotlight 29 show is only electric, though.

Sammy Hagar to pen autobiography

hagar.jpg

Sammy Hagar recently did an interview with "Atlantic City Weekly" and he mentioned that he's writing an autobiography and also talked about his life growing up in Fontana.

Read the full interview here.

I'm doing an autobiography called Sammy Hagar Red. When you read my family background you're going to ask "How did this happen? It's a miracle." I came from a family in which my father died in the back of a police car when he was 53 years old, drunk on the streets of my hometown of Fontana, California. It was a small steel-mill town where everybody knew everybody else, which made it tough on me, my brother and two sisters. My mom [Gladys] would do ironing and pick fruit to raise four kids. A single mom -- that's where the heart and soul comes from. Even though we were poor we had clean clothes and she gave us values. My mom [who passed away a couple of years ago] was totally uneducated, she only went through eighth grade, but she had heart and soul and creativity. My brother and sisters all have had good lives and no problems, and it's because of my mom. Fontana was rough and tough and nothing was given to you. This is where I came from and can brag a little bit and put a feather in my cap -- I came from nothing, zero.

Hagar will be back in Inland SoCal on Sept. 10 with Chickenfoot at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio. Tickets for the show go on sale Friday at 10 a.m.

Micah Justice Band to record live CD in Riverside on Saturday

micahjustice.jpg

The Micah Justice Band has a special show booked Saturday night for the Mission Tobacco Lounge in Riverside -- the performance will become a recording for Justice and her band.

You might recognize the energetic and talented Justice from her work with R.O.C.K. -- Regional Organization of the Creative Kind, which is focused on bringing together different segments of the creative community, such as artists and musicians.

Joining Justice on Saturday is guitarist Alex Tasch, who also plays in The Skeletones. Other guest musicians include bassist James Breaker on bass and guitarist Gino Matteo.

As an added bonus, Hemet alt-country heroes Whiskey Dick Rebellion opens the show.

Visit www.micahjustice.com for more information.

9 p.m. Saturday, Mission Tobacco Lounge, 3630 University Ave., Riverside, 21 and older, $5.

What do you think of Epicenter 2010?

The Epicenter 2010 lineup came out yesterday and it looks like blink-182 (with Fontana native Travis Barker), Eminem and Kiss will be headed our way to the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana Sept. 25 and 26.

Two things I just heard about this morning is that the festival will feature an expanded area including accommodations for overnight festival camping and that none of the bands will overlap at all during the weekend.

For those of us who have been at Coachella and Stagecoach, breathe a big sigh of relief. If I had to miss Bad Religion (also announced as an act) I would be a rather unhappy person.

Thumbnail image for badreligion.jpg

If you missed the lineup announcement, here's who else has been confirmed in addition to the headliners: Rise Against, Thirty Seconds To Mars, Bush, B.O.B., Bad Religion, Papa Roach, A Day To Remember, Suicidal Tendencies, The Black Pacific, New Politics, The Knux and a solo set from Travis Barker. Tickets are $79.50 for a single day, $149.50 for a two-day pass, $395 for VIP. That doesn't include hotel and camping packages.

Visit www.EpicenterFestival.com for more info.

Now it's your turn. What do you think of the lineup? Will you go to the show? Write your thoughts in the comments area below.

A reunion of 1990s alt-rock band Bush, Suicidal Tendencies, Rise Against and A Day to Remember are also on the initial lineup. Bad Religion, 30 Seconds to Mars, Papa Roach, New Politics, The Knux, B.O.B. and The Black Pacific will also perform.

Los Angeles-based KROQ 106.7 FM announced the lineup at 5 p.m. Monday, but San Bernardino's X103.9 FM had information about the lineup and dates on its website early in the afternoon before pulling down the lineup and dates.

The festival is put on by Right Arm Entertainment, which also organizes Ohio's Rock on the Range festival and used to help produce KROQ's Inland Invasion, which took place at what is now known as the San Manuel Amphitheater in Devore before going on hiatus a couple of years ago.

Bob Dylan and John Mellencamp headed to Ontario

They will play on Aug. 19 at 7 p.m. at the Ontario arena and tickets are $42.50, $62.50 and $79.50 before fees.

I saw the pair's tour with Willie Nelson at the Lake Elsinore Diamond last summer and it was a blast. Everyone loves Dylan, but I have a special place in my heart for Mr. Mellencamp and "The Authority Song."
