Redlands rock band The Fingers (photo above courtesy of Marc Piron) will play three sets at the Redlands Fox on Friday, May 18.

The band is playing its original music (they have a full-length due out later this year), as well as do a set of Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" in its entirety, backed by even more musicians, including the female backup singers, saxophones and synths.

Band member and filmmaker Chris Pepino has created a psychedelic music video to accompany the band for the "Dark Side" set.

It's also a masquerade ball, so costumes are encouraged.

Tickets to the show are $12. Dinner reservations can be made for an additional $10.

7 p.m. Friday, May 18, Fox Events Center, 123 Cajon St., Redlands, $12, all ages.

COACHELLA 2013: Organizers hint at announcement

I don't think I've fully recovered from my three weeks in Indio for the twin Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festivals and the Stagecoach Country Music Festival, but it looks like we're getting details on Monday about the 2013 edition of Coachella.

Goldenvoice posted an image of this year's festival with the words "Monday 10AM PDT" on it. (See above)

Last year, Goldenvoice announced that Coachella would be expanding to the twin editions and offered a limited pre-sale layaway program around this time so that's my best guess as to what we might see, and probably the dates for 2013.

In the meantime, you can re-live all of the fun of Coachella 2012 over at the iGuide Coachella page.

TEMECULA: Jazz venue set to open in June

There's a jazz venue coming to Temecula just in time for the summer.

Jazzy's Restaurant is welcoming former Buddy Rich Orchestra member and established saxophone player Richie Cole on June 1.

Cole will play two sets with Jon Laskin's band at 6 and 8:30 p.m. Laskin, who headed up the now-defunct Temecula Valley International Jazz Festival, will be hosting weekly jazz nights on Fridays.

The restaurant will be located in the Palomar Village Shopping Center at 30590 Rancho California Road in Temecula.

MUSIC: Beastie Boys' Adam Yauch has died

Rolling Stone is reporting that Adam Yauch, better known as MCA of the Beastie Boys, has died.

Yauch, who had been battling cancer since 2009, sat out the group's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame earlier this spring.

The Beastie Boys rose to fame in the early 1980s, becoming part of the growing rap movement in music and regular faces on MTV in the heyday of the channel's early years. The band's first hit, ""(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (to Party!)" made them stars and catapulted the album "Licensed to Ill" to number one on the Billboard top 200, a feat that no rap album had done before. Yauch's deeper, raspier voice was always there for a punchline, a balance to the higher-pitched tones of Mike D and Ad-Rock.

But as cheeky and immature as some of the band's songs were on that record (see "Girls"), the Beastie Boys grew into something much more. "Licensed to Ill" follow-up "Paul's Boutique" saw the group stretching into different types of music and the iconic "Check Your Head" album saw the band bringing in some punk roots, too.

Then, the Beastie Boys had their second video renaissance following the release of 1994's "Ill Communication," which led to the cop spoof video of "Sabotage."

Personally, I really loved when Yauch picked up the bass for the band, adding the funk and punk to the live show.

RIP, MCA. This still remains my favorite Beasties video.

TEMECULA: Ozomatli to headline concert May 19

Ozomatli is on tap to headline a new festival in the Temecula area on Saturday, May 19.

The LA-based world music band is going to be at the inaugural Ethos Endurance Festival at Vail Lake Resort.

The Ethos 8K SEAL Challenge Race is an 8K race/comeptition that has obstacles and a course designed by former Navy SEALs. Then, there's the Ethos Grand Prix, which features a swim-run-swim-run race format consisting of 400-meter swim around buoys and a 2-mile run on a criterium-style loop course (swim, run repeat).

If all of that just sounds to exhausting, you can catch Ozomatli for $10 after the show. If you're competing in the race, you get in for free.

Visit www.active-ethos.com/register to register for the event.

AUDIO FILE: Inland musical family tree

I'm embarking on the project that I've been wanting to do for a while--create an Inland music family tree. If you're in a band or know someone who is, please send them the link to this page so they can enter their information. We're looking for bands that have released original music in some fashion.
