Beaumont City Council to discuss mandatory spay/neuter Tuesday

| | Comments (2)
The Beaumont City Council is scheduled to adopt an ordinance that makes spaying and neutering pets mandatory when it meets Tuesday night.

The council approved the first reading of the ordinance two weeks ago.

The ordinance states, in part, that no person "shall own, keep, or habor an unaltered dog or cat."

Under the ordinance, owners or custodians of unaltered dogs or cats must provide a certificate of sterility or obtain an unaltered dog or cat license.

The meeting is at 6 p.m. at the Beaumont Civic Center, 550 East Sixth St.

Have we really gotten to the point that we cannot be responsible pet owners and need to be told how when what and where? Just because of the FEW that are un-educated and unmotivated to do the right things at the right time....we the average knowledgable owner must suffer the costs associated with those decisions....

If you dont want government telling you what to do all the time, then start doing the right thing by educating your neighbors and friends about responsible ownership.......

but let us not allow the misguided few to make the rules that have not worked in other places for us.

Come on America, land of the FREE...wake up and take charge.....dont let this happen..who knows what they will be telling you next...

This is a big mistake. If you look at other cites that have done this, the intake & euthanasia have risen while, rabies & registration have dropped considerably. Don't know your goal but I bet you will not succeed as many other cities have found out. I am glad I do not live in Beaumont.
