The Magic of Music Brings Together Dogs From Animal Shelters to Truckers Who Adopt Them With Love!!! One Person Can Make A Difference!
The mystery of life sometimes is revealed in such interesting spiritual ways. I would never have dreamed that my country music performances would lead to bringing together truckers and dogs from shelters and being able to save animals' lives while giving a trucker a dear companion for his travels. My entire life I have held a deep passion for animals, always owning at least two pets, one time I had six adult dogs, and ended up with 39 puppies, all at the same time. I actually got every puppy adopted by a trucker, except for one, Tiller, of which I had to keep because she growled at six weeks old at everyone in the universe, but me.
But every Sundays and Tuesday I am blessed to perform at one of the largest truck stops in the county in Ontario. My Susanne Spirit USA Road Show, Love My Truck Drivin' Man, includes the awesome musicians from the Greenland Holler Band and the wonderful Copper Canyon Band. We have the best time singing classic and new country music with some blues, bluegrass and a little Cajun, to our audience that includes drivers who oftentimes have their children and pets traveling with them.
I've chosen to spend the entire day with all these different people and I try to make sure each person has a special time. I've added a Trucker Talent contest for these folks many of whom carry their guitar with them and love to sing. Many times they join us on stage. Some very talented people have entertained us. Drivers with pets started asking if they could show off their dog, or lizard or even their goat, and so began the Trucker Pet Talent contest. It's a treat for everyone when a hard workingman or woman brings their pet down our red carpet to show off the pet and to tell this audience how usually he rescued his animal. Then he shows us his pet's tricks or just the pet's love. These are amazing moments.
I've been told the contests are talked about all across the US and Canada as proud pet owners tell others "Go to California . . . they got a country band, talent contests for truckers and even one for your pets." Then people started asking me at the shows, if I had any dogs they could adopt. That is how the Musical Truckin' Dog Adoptions began. Now each week wonderful folks from the Rancho Cucamonga and Upland Animal Shelter arrive with doggies and truckers are waiting in line to adopt them. And, what great parents these folks make!
On January 31 five dogs were adopted. One little guy, Corky, was six years old. An older gentleman was so happy that there was an "old" dog there like himself. He picked Corky up and said, "I am going to take you all over the country with me. You and I are going to have a lot of fun."
A couple were short about $40 for the adoption fee and people in the audience stepped up and within minutes there was $70 extra with everyone telling these people to just spend the extra on the dog. A beautiful greyhound mix saw one lady and just laid his head on her shoulder. She began to cry. She had a new friend for life. The woman had just lost her husband. These dogs, that would have to be put to sleep if not adopted, are creating miracles with the truckers. We are so blessed.
We have created a Musical Truckin' Dog Adoption Fund that will help us to make sure that we can continue to offer our shows so we can bring the dogs to the truckers, and keep the adoptions going. You get recognition in return for your support. And, we sure appreciate any help given.
I have many stories to share with you on each adoption, but just wanted to share the miracles of what happened in this past week. But keep on the lookout as I have so many tales to tell. My only desire is to make a difference in this world, and as a lonely trucker walks away with his new buddy, we know we have changed a man and a dog's life.
