On January 15, Animal Samaritans SPCA presents the Men of the Desert Fashion show, featuring local models and their well-behaved pooches. Don Vincent of Don Vincent's men's store on El Paseo will fit models in both causal and elegant attire. In addition to showing off some of the Desert's most fashionable men's wear, models will walk the runway with their dogs, not to sell pet clothes, but to remind guests of what the event is all about--helping animals.
Guests will enjoy the men's fashion show, live entertainment, and lunch for just $60 dollars. Proceeds from Men of the Desert benefit Animal Samaritans SPCA, the Desert's most comprehensive animal welfare organization. Animal Samaritans opened their full-service, state-of-the-art veterinary clinic in April 2010, and continues to operate a no-kill animal shelter, humane education program, and animal assisted therapy services.
"Last year's event was spectacular," notes event chairperson Don Genhart. "And this year's is going to be even better." With entertainment by actress & singer Donna Theodore, Las Vegas performer Austin Ray, crooner Rocky Blumhagen, and pianist Bill Marx he could be right.
The event also has an opportunity drawing for a getaway to Big Bear Mountain, which includes a two-night stay at Blue Horizon Lodge, chartered fishing trip, bike rentals and dining. Guests can also win a Super Deluxe Pet Basket, featuring pet massages from Nose-to-Tail Massages, pet carrier, toys, treats and pet wear. The Age-Defying Package offers teeth whitening, skin care, and a complete hair make-over. In addition, the live auction boasts: a San Diego adventure with theater tickets, kayaking, museum passes, harbor cruise and dinner; Gourmet Dining Experience that includes a five-course dinner for 10 by Desert Cities Catering; and a Desert Escape at the Hyatt in Indian Wells that includes symphony tickets, dinner, and salon services.
Local TV host Patti Gribow returns as the event's Mistress of Ceremonies. The show's models include local animal lovers Don Genhart, Allan Farwell, Alan Goda, Mark Miller, Michael Myers, Michael Phipps, Austin Ray, Mike Russell, Michael Shepherd and the Reverend Joe Hooper, who pastors the Center for Spiritual Living in Palm Desert.
The event is being held at the Hyatt Grand Champions Resort in Indian Wells from 11:30am to 2:00pm. Complimentary parking is provided. For ticket information, call Animal Samaritans at 760.343.3216, or download reservation forms at www.animalsamaritans.org.
